Congrats to Alyson and Josh who will be getting married in Destin with a SOLARIS Yacht Wedding this December.

They got engaged on the sky deck of the SOLARIS and now they are hosting their Destin wedding and reception in the exact same place. How great is this engagement story?

“Alyson, being the Auburn grad that she is moves to “the other side of the state” … Tuscaloosa. She moves into a cute little house and meets her next door neighbor, Justin Slaton. At the time, no one knew that Justin had a side business in match-making; however, as time would tell…he would retire in this business with a pretty steady record of one for one. 🙂

Jennifer Marie Bensley & James Emerson Lindsay

Despite their busy lives, destiny didn’t give up on James and Jennifer. James from Mobile met Jennifer from Birmingham through an online dating service in February. Between the four hour distance and demanding schedules, they exchanged a few casual text messages to no avail.

At the Gulf Shores Hangout Music Festival a few months later, an energetic girl, with a “smile that could make sunshine in the shade” as James remembers, caught his eye. They talked for a few minutes, exchanged names and as James walked away, he realized it was the Jennifer from Birmingham. Out of 35,000 people, they ended up rubbing elbows in the sunshine, wind and salty air of that fateful day. As they describe it, they fit like that last piece of a jigsaw puzzle – it wasn’t made to go anywhere else.

That serendipitous day led to a year of romance and love. James and Jennifer spent her birthday, which also happened to be New Year’s Eve, in Hilton Head with Jennifer’s family. At the stroke of midnight, James proposed to Jennifer and they rang in the New Year as a happily engaged couple.

Destin Wedding Planning – Tips From SOLARIS Wedding Planners

So You’re Engaged….Now What?

January 7th – Congrats on your engagement. Now that you’ve found the one, it’s time to start planning the day you’ve dreamed of your entire life. If you are planning a wedding in Destin Florida, you are choosing one of the most beautiful destinations in the world. Whether you live locally or far away, planning a destination wedding can be quite stressful. Consider these tips from the SOLARIS wedding planners who have over 10 years experience planning weddings in Destin.

Shout It From the RooftopsFirst you have to share the good news with family and friends. Obviously engagement announcements to immediate family and close friends should be in person or on the phone. Announcements to everyone else could be via email, social media or scheduling a photo shoot and printing out engagement announcements to snail mail out. Your parents or close friends might also consider throwing you an engagement party to tell everyone at once.

PlanJanuary is one of the busiest months for wedding vendors, with many booking up for the entire year and into 2016. The sooner you can plan, the sooner you can secure the vendors you want. The first step is for you and your fiancée to sit down together to brainstorm what you envision for your wedding, i.e. what you want, what you don’t want, timing, etc. Sketch out an outline or notes on things you both agree on for the location, ceremony, reception and honeymoon.

BudgetThis might be the most important part of the wedding planning process. It will also be a sticky conversation for you and your love but it will be the first of many throughout your marriage. Discuss if either of your parents will pay for portions of the wedding and how much the two of you together will pay. Write out all the expense categories from beginning to end (i.e. venues, planners, gifts, attire, flowers, rehearsal dinner, bridal lunches, venue, entertainment, food/drinks. reception, honeymoon, tips, etc) and discuss the max you are both willing to spend on each. Also, have a contingency budget for unexpected and last minute expenses that will come up. You must both make a commitment to stick to the budget, no matter what.

Guest List – The next important step in the planning process is the guest list. This will make or break your budget and determine what venue you select so you need to plan accordingly ahead of time. If you are having a destination wedding, consider who might not be able to travel due to health issues, finances, young children, etc. Consider if each guest will be invited to bring a guest as well, which will double your guest list and budget. Also, don’t forget to include your groomsman/bridesmaids and a guest for them as well, if applicable. Add a few extras to your total because there will be someone left out of the initial list.

Venue – Venues book up quickly as they are the first thing most couples book. Some venues book up 2-3 years in advance so as soon as you plan the timing and location and have your budget and guest list numbers, this needs to be your next priority. If you’re planning a beach wedding in Destin, then consider a close by venue for the reception. Also, if this is a destination wedding, consider near by accommodations for guests. Make sure the venue offers a rain plan as well. Also, consider venues for the rehearsal dinner, bridal lunches, etc.

Save the Date – As soon as the venue and location has been secured, send out a save-the-date to everyone on your guest list. If you’re planning a destination wedding in Destin, make sure to include accommodation options for guests and give them as much notice as possible to schedule their trip.

The SOLARIS has a full time team of wedding planners in Destin who would be happy to answer any questions you might have. Give them a call at 850.650.2519. While you’re at it, ask them how you can get up to $1,000 off a Destin Yacht Wedding on the SOLARIS!

Destin Florida Weddings & Budgets | SOLARIS Wedding Planners Column

Destin Florida weddings on the SOLARIS yacht

Within minutes of daydreaming and planning your wedding, your budget can skyrocket as your imagination soars and your dreams reach the sky. After getting quotes from what seems like hundreds of vendors, reality quickly sinks in at how expensive weddings can be. SOLARIS wedding planners have been planning Destin Florida weddings for over 10 years and share their top advice for stretching your budget.

All-Inclusive Weddings in Destin: All-inclusive means easy. Whether you are trying to secure accommodations or a venue, ask for all-inclusive Destin wedding packages that include the tax, service fees, linen rentals and any other miscellaneous charges so you know what the bottom line price is going to be with no surprises when the bill comes.

Location is Everything: For destination weddings, you want to give your guests a stress-free and authentic experience. The SOLARIS is docked at the all-inclusive Sandestin Golf and Beach Resort so your guests can arrive and park the car for the weekend. With resort-wide transportation, dining and shopping, there’s no reason to leave.

You can also avoid the confusion of directing everyone from the church to the reception site by having an amazing sunset wedding in Destin on the SOLARIS and having the entire yacht to yourselves for an stunning and unforgettable reception on the water.

Don’t Plan to Fail: Local wedding planners can be expensive but worth it to take the stress off of the bride, especially if you are out of town. Luckily, all of the SOLARIS wedding packages include our full-time wedding planner who is with you from the beginning to the end to navigate you through the process. Our local wedding planners have been planning Destin Florida weddings for over 10 years and know all the ins and outs, dos and don’ts to save you money. They also have a Rolodex of vendors they trust that serves as a tremendous local resource.

With 360 degree views of the water and sunset, the SOLARIS sky deck provides all the ambiance you need for your Destin wedding. The lower decks also have panoramic windows and covered decks to ensure your guests get the best view in the house.

For today’s Wedding Wednesday, our wedding planners brainstorm fun theme ideas for weddings on the SOLARIS yacht. With an amazing venue and stunning environment, the sky’s the limit when it comes to ideas for themes and decor for Destin weddings.

If you want to go down the nautical route, you can do cute save-the-date cards with a white rope tied in a knot (Save-the-date as we Tie the Knot) or “We Anchored the Date”. One couple used “Two less fish in the sea” as their theme and carried it out throughout the wedding and reception. “A Voyage of Love” could be another fun theme, using nautical maps and captain’s logs.

Two of our favorite ideas was asking guests to leave you a message in a bottle for you to read on your first anniversary and having guests sign personalized wooden paddles that you can display in your home. We’ve even had not only grooms, but brides where boat shoes under their wedding dresses.

destin florida weddings coastal elegance

You could also theme your wedding around coastal elegance, using soft pastel colors (sky blues to sunset corals with silver accents). Decor could include anything from starfish and shells to sugar white sand from the beaches of Destin and floating candles in fishbowls. Some brides have had flip flop buckets for guests and served a signature tropical drink from the SOLARIS bar.

Our wedding planners have 10+ years of tried and true ideas for how to make your SOLARIS wedding just as special as the couple that you are. You can also visit our Pinterest page where our wedding planners are pinning ideas daily to our many Destin Florida wedding boards.
